Welcome To Merry Men Woodcrafts

Boyd and Gwin Merriman are the heart and soul of Merry Men Woodcrafts/Woodworking.

Boyd’s journey began in carpentry, learning the trade alongside his father on projects throughout the South. He later forged his own creative path as a sign painter, mastering the traditional art of hand lettering and pictorial billboard painting. From the 1980s through the early 2000s, he owned and operated his own sign shop, blending craftsmanship with artistic expression.

Gwin grew up with a deep love for drawing, painting, and carving—talents her mother encouraged through art classes. Alongside her artistic pursuits, she developed a natural aptitude for mechanical problem-solving. After seeing her first live stage production as a high school junior, she pursued a degree in theater, where she combined creativity and technical skill as a theater technical director.

Boyd and Gwin met in Atlanta, Georgia, and quickly bonded over their shared love of the arts and a mutual passion for tinkering with old cars. Over the years, they have continued to refine their skills by creating costumes for Renaissance fairs, volunteering in community theaters, and crafting handmade pieces for family and friends.

With decades of life experience behind them—raising a family, building varied careers, and navigating both successes and setbacks—Boyd and Gwin are now focused on what they love most: creating beautiful, functional objects by hand. Merry Men Woodworking represents not just a business, but an ongoing journey of growth, creativity, and shared purpose for two dedicated makers.
